New & Transfer Student Admission Checklist

You’ll find the community of support and resources you need to meet your education goals. This checklist will guide you through the steps needed to apply for admissions and get started at DCC.

Your First Steps

  1. Apply . Your first step is to complete your online admission application . You can check the status of your application online after you apply.
  2. Submit your official transcripts . Request that your official high school transcript, GED or HSE scores, AP scores and/or college transcripts be sent directly to our Admissions Office. They can be sent by mail, email or from a third-party vendor like Parchment or Scoir. I f you received your high school diploma from a school outside the U.S., you’ll need to have your transcript evaluated by a NACES accredited organization. We recommend The Evaluation Company (formerly SpanTran) or International Education Evaluation (IEE). Click on the links for customized DCC applications. Talk to an admissions counselor to learn more.
  3. Apply for financial aid . If you would like to explore ways to help pay for school, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. Follow these steps to submit your FAFSA.

After You've Been Accepted

First, please fill out our very brief survey to let us know you're still coming! Then, follow the steps below to complete the registration process.

Check Your myDCC Portal

Be sure to check your myDCC email account often. This is where you will receive important communication from DCC, including messages from your professors.

Take Academic Placement Tests if Needed

Depending on when you last attended school, you may be asked to take a placement test before you can register for classes. We will review your transcripts and let you know if a test is needed. Do not take the test until we review all transcripts.

Degree-seeking students may be exempt from portions of the placement test based on high school and/or college transcripts, and SAT or ACT scores.

If you need testing accommodations, contact the Office of Accommodative Services at (845) 431-8055 before your exam.

Submit Immunization Records

New York State law requires students born on or after January 1, 1957 to have health and immunization information on file with the College Health Service. If you are taking six or more credit hours, you are required to provide proof of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella before registering for classes. Immunization or medical records from your doctor may be provided as proof.
